If your organization serves the architect and design industry, knowing the editorial format of A&D publications is essential. From a PR perspective, this knowledge allows you to better communicate your brand’s story. It can also drive greater brand awareness and perception. And yes, it can even generate leads and sales opportunities.

As B2B PR agency that works with many brands in the A&D industry, we have our pulse on numerous publications that reach key A&D decision makers.

It’s our job to know the editors at these A&D publications. We also know their editorial format. We understand the issues they cover and don’t. We know what stories to pitch and how our clients might gain coverage.

In short, these architect and design publications are our editorial partners. We seek to be a resource to help them and our clients achieve mutual goals.

Architect and Design Publications Leading the Way

Here are four architect and design publications that should be on the radar of any brand serving the A&D community.

Architectural Products

As its name suggests, Architectural Products places a strong amount of its editorial coverage on product news and product innovation. AP aims to separate itself through its case study method: “An editorial presentation of products framed by a success story.” In other words, these articles show how products, materials and systems add value to a project. AP also covers the industry with editorial commentary and noteworthy projects. It does a great job of covering major trade shows ranging from AHR Expo and NeoCon to AIA and Lightfair.

AP has long been a friend to Spaulding Communications. Their editorial staff is always receptive to story pitches. They regularly include byline articles and case studies authored by manufacturers. We also enjoy the annual Product Innovation Award (PIA) contest. AP publishes six times a year. Learn more about AP.

Spaulding Communications worked with AP to get a client’s new products featured on the front page of their publication following NeoCon.

The Architect’s Newspaper

The Architect’s Newspaper (AN) covers a wide range of industry news and projects. It bills itself as a publication that delivers “up to the minute news.” The print edition is published eight times per year and boasts an audience of about 100,000. It administers several awards, including the Best of Product Award. This is a great award for manufacturers looking to gain credibility for their innovative products.

Its sister publication, AN Interior, is published three time a year. It has an estimated national audience of about 60,000. AN Media Group also puts on the Facades+ and TECH+ expos. Its digitally-based C|E Strong platform connects manufacturers with architect firm decision makers. It provides webinars, CEU programs, workshops and conferences to support professional growth. AN has well developed sections for architecture, design, art and urbanism, in addition to current events, newsletters and award postings.

Interior Design

Interior Design is the grande dame among industry design magazines. Where to start? It has an international scope and massive editorial coverage. It features some of the most jaw-dropping, cutting-edge commercial and residential projects.

It publishes thoughtful articles by its staff and design leaders. We love their “10 Questions With…” Interior Design is also a leading voice at NeoCon. It produces a ton of content and events for the show, including the NeoCon Show Directory and NeoCon’s Show Daily. It also hosts the venerable Best of Year, Hall of Fame Awards and HiP Awards. Its product–focused Market Tabloid comes out twice a year. According to its 2020 media kit, Interior Design has a global reach of 9 million, which spans its print, online and social media platform audiences. I’m just touching the surface with all that Interior Design and Sandow have to offer. Learn more about Interior Design.

Interior Design’s Market Tabloid, published in the spring and fall, is an excellent way for brands to gain exposure for their new products.

Interiors + Sources

Interiors + Sources recently unveiled a new brand look, and we love it! But the heart of what makes this publication so special has not changed. As its “Sources” term implies, the publication places a great deal of emphasis on the products and materials being used in commercial interior design.

We love the publication’s wide range of content. It offers thought-pieces from industry leaders. It also showcases inspiring projects and product-focused feature articles. We love its Product Q&A articles and its Sources section. The I+S editorial staff has always been open to story pitches and is a pleasure to work with. Learn more about Interiors + Sources.

We partnered with the editorial staff at I+S on a Product Q&A article to promote HAT Collective’s new height-adjustable work desk.
